Produktbeskrivelse

Common use

Tapazole (methimazole) is prescribed for the treatment of hyperthyroidism, including Graves’ disease and toxic nodular goiter. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), helping restore normal thyroid function and reduce symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, weight loss, and anxiety.

Dosage and direction

Tapazole is taken orally, usually once or multiple times daily depending on the prescribed regimen. Tablets should be swallowed whole, with or without food. Dosage is adjusted based on thyroid function tests and clinical response. Regular monitoring of thyroid hormone levels is required.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, immune disorders, or a history of low blood cell counts. Monitor for signs of infection, unusual bleeding, or jaundice. Avoid sudden discontinuation without consulting your healthcare provider, as this may worsen hyperthyroid symptoms.

Contraindications

Do not use Tapazole if allergic to methimazole or any component of the tablet. It is contraindicated in patients during the first trimester of pregnancy unless no alternative therapy is available. Use cautiously in patients with liver disease or bone marrow suppression.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include nausea, headache, rash, and mild gastrointestinal upset. Serious side effects may include agranulocytosis (severe reduction in white blood cells), liver toxicity, fever, sore throat, or severe allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if serious symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Tapazole may interact with anticoagulants, digoxin, beta-blockers, and other antithyroid medications. Always inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at once.

Overdose

Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or more serious complications such as severe hypothyroidism or liver toxicity. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Tapazole at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep the tablets in their original container and out of reach of children.
